The Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office announced this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"On July 22, 2026, the enemy attacked the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Myrne in the Volnovakha district. During the combat mission, the occupiers captured a Ukrainian defender and executed him," the statement said.

A pre-trial investigation has been opened into a suspected war crime resulting in the victim's death under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.

Investigators are carrying out urgent investigative measures to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify the Russian military personnel responsible.

The prosecutor's office stressed that the killing of prisoners of war is a grave breach of the Geneva Conventions and constitutes a serious international crime.

Earlier, on July 13, Russian troops executed a captured Ukrainian defender near the village of Yalta in the Donetsk region.
