Google could soon let you create AI-generated lock screen clocks on Android

The latest Android Canary 2608 build comes with a Quick Settings layout editor, which is great for people looking to customize the order of Quick Settings tiles, the brightness slider, and the media player. However, the new build also includes code hinting at an upcoming lock screen feature for Android 17.

Google seems to be working on a new AI clock feature for Pixel phones. It will let users create their own lock screen clock styles using AI prompts. The feature includes an “Ideas” button, which will presumably offer suggestions for clock styles. Users will also be able to upload an image to use as a reference for their prompt.

Although we were able to get the UI to appear, the feature itself isn’t working yet. Submitting an AI prompt currently displays an error: “Service not connected.” This is likely a server-side feature that Google will enable once it is ready to roll out.

It’s unclear when (or if) the feature will go live. Google is clearly still working on the actual implementation, but the UI seems ready to go. Hopefully, the company will be able to get it ready sooner rather than later.
