Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Russell Crowe are set to star in an upcoming sci-fi actioner, Bluefly, it was announced recently. Directed by Nimród Antal (Predators, Stranger Things), the film is written by David Frigerio (Beast, Land of Bad), William Eubank (Underwater, The Signal) and Carlyle Eubank (Broke, Muzzle).
Set in Congo, the film tells the story of a grieving UN translator, who is pulled onto a black-ops mission to recover a downed aircraft. “As a Special Operations team pushes upriver through militia-held territory, the recovery becomes a descent — and the closer they get to the craft, the clearer it becomes that they were never meant to bring it home,” shared the makers in a press release.
Speaking about the film, Nimród Antal said, “Bluefly is an intense, character-driven thriller wrapped inside a bold science-fiction premise. It’s the kind of film I live to make — grounded, propulsive, and full of dread — and I couldn’t ask for a better cast or team to bring it to the screen.”
Bluefly is produced by Michael Jefferson of Polite Society, David Frigerio of Broken Open Pictures, Deborah Glover of G2 Dispatch, Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier of Highland Film Group, and Vanessa Yao Guo. The film is executive produced by Lia Buman, Guy Davies, RuthAnne Frigerio, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Jason Kringstein, Katie Leary, and Scott Levenson.
Principal photography is set to begin later this year on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Priyanka will also be sharing the screen with Orlando Bloom in the upcoming survival thriller Reset. She was last seen in Prime Video’s The Bluff, which also starred Idris Elba and John Cena. She will also play a major role in S.S. Rajamouli’s upcoming action-adventure epic Varanasi, slated for release on April 7, 2027.
Meanwhile, Crowe was last seen in Nuremberg and will next be seen in Netflix’s thriller Unabomber, Vertical’s The Weight, Walden Media’s thriller Billion Dollar Spy, and Amazon MGM’s highly anticipated reboot, Highlander.
