A billboard in Los Angeles has drawn crowds for an unusual sight: a man living inside a tiny, fully furnished living room built into the towering 30-foot structure.
Netflix placed a man inside the billboard located at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Selma Avenue to promote its new sci-fi horror The Last House, starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura.
Directed by Louis Leterrier and out now, the movie follows a family of four who are suddenly sealed in their home and forced to work together to survive against both dwindling resources and the mysterious threat that traps them inside.
The man, who began his billboard sleepover Thursday, is expected to exist in the room through Saturday, per Netflix’s Tudum. He has been seen wearing pajamas and a bathrobe, drinking from a coffee mug and using a whiteboard to interact with spectators below.
The question, “How long can you survive?” appears in big black lettering beneath the living room window.
The room is said to have air conditioning, according to Entertainment Weekly, so the man can live comfortably through the extreme Southern California heat wave.
It’s unknown whether he has access to a bathroom or what his food situation is. The Independent has contacted Netflix for comment.
When asked about the view from the billboard by ABC 7 via a whiteboard, the man replied, writing, “Spectacular.”
Asked if he’s getting much sleep, he simply responded, “no.”
The man’s living situation has left those online baffled. “You don’t see this every day. Netflix built a fully furnished living room inside a Sunset Blvd billboard and put an actor in it for four days to promote The Last House,” one wrote on X. “Marketing team worked overtime on this one.”
“Can I sign up? Given the current rental price…,” another quipped.
Speaking to Tudum about the film’s message, Letterier explained: “The Last House challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity.
“This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”
Sharing what drew him to the role, Oscar-nominated Secret Agent star Moura teased that “the storyline will evolve in ways that the audience certainly will not expect, but that is what makes this film so interesting.
“There are layers and twists that I can’t wait for everyone to see,” he said, with Lee adding, “I love the questions this movie asks about our world and how we choose to live in it. And I was excited about the possibility of asking these questions in a new and entertaining way.”
The Last House is streaming now on Netflix.
