Figures from the HSE show over 960 women are on waiting lists for endometriosis care across five established specialist endometriosis services across the country.
Currently 965 women are on waiting lists, with 135 waiting over a year, figures released to Breakingnews through the Freedom of Information Act 2014 show.
This is a drop from the 1,045 women on waiting lists at the end of 2025.
However, the HSE says it is s not currently possible to determine with absolute accuracy the number of women awaiting endometriosis care across acute gynaecology services nationally.
Endometriosis causes cells, similar to those in the lining of the womb, to grow outside the uterus and can cause a range of symptoms, with some people experiencing chronic, debilitating pain.
The hospital with the highest number of women on waiting lists for endometriosis care is Tallaght University Hospital (TUH), with 349 women on waiting lists.
Of these, 88 women are waiting between six and nine months for endometriosis care at TUH, while 71 women are waiting over a year.
At the Rotunda Regional Endometriosis Service, 270 women are on waiting lists, with 83 women waiting up to three months, 54 women are waiting between nine and 12 months, while 64 women are waiting over a year.
At Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH), 167 women are on waiting lists for endometriosis care, where 123 women are waiting up to three months, with 41 women waiting up to six months.
At the Coombe Regional Endometriosis Service, 127 women are on waiting lists, with 47 women waiting up to three months, while there is also 47 women who are waiting up to nine months.
At the University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UHML), 52 women are on waiting lists.
The majority, 39, are waiting up to three months.
Endometriosis is believed to affect as many as one in seven women in Ireland, and there is no known cure.
At least 10 people have travelled abroad for endometriosis surgery in the last six months.
The HSE said work is underway to refine data collection processes to support the disaggregation and extraction of endometriosis-specific waiting list data at a national level, with a pilot initiative scheduled to commence in Q2.
