All set for ‘Bakbakan Syete’ boxing spectacle in Asturias
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Everything is in place for the “Bakbakan Syete” boxing event, which will be held in the Municipality of Asturias, Cebu, on Sunday, August 9.
Promoted by Big Yellow Boxing Promotions, the card will be headlined by veteran Carlo Demecillo, who stepped in as a last-minute replacement for the injured Reycar Auxilio to face Taiwanese Ming Hung Lee for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Australasian super-featherweight title.
‘Bakbakan Syete’ weigh-ins
Demecillo, 30, accepted the fight on just a few days’ notice and officially weighed in at 129 pounds on Saturday, August 8, at the ConEquip Philippines Inc. showroom in Mandaue City, where Big Yellow Boxing Gym and Promotions is based.
Lee, meanwhile, came in at the 130-pound limit.
Present during the official weigh-in were Big Yellow Boxing Promotions representative Christian Maambong Conejo, WBF supervisor Alvin Go, and officials from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB).\
Demecillo vs. Lee
Demecillo is an experienced campaigner who has shared the ring with several notable fighters, including Carl Jammes Martin, Tasana Salapat, Jayson Mama, Satoshi Shimizu, Arthur Villanueva, and Sho Ishida.
He has also scored victories over Virgel Vitor, Junrel Jimenez, Justine Darap, and Jess Rhey Waminal.
However, Demecillo is coming off a fourth-round knockout loss to Martin, one of the top contenders in the super-bantamweight division, on May 16, 2026, in Taguig City.
Lee, 37, has not fought since scoring a first-round knockout over Jason Tinampay late last year in Mandaue City. He is currently riding a four-fight winning streak following the lone defeat of his career, a loss to Matthew Fondales in 2019.
Demecillo owns a 19–13–2 record with 11 knockouts, while Lee enters the bout at 11–1 with eight knockouts.
Fight card
In the co-main event, unbeaten Big Yellow Boxing Stable prospect Arlando Senoc will take on seasoned Talisay City boxer Jhonrey Labajo.
Senoc enters the fight with a perfect 8–0 record, including seven victories by knockout. The reigning WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight champion has quickly emerged as one of the country’s promising young boxing prospects and will look to extend his unbeaten run.
Also on the card are Deams Lloyd Valdez (2–0) against Zairus Esito (2–0, 1 KO), Aldren Aton (2–4–1) against Jimmybie Cais (4–4, 2 KOs), Venance Dances (1–0) against Niño Jay Malbago (1–4), and Ruel Compuesto (4–0, 2 KOs) against BJ Wild (12–6–2, 6 KOs).
Admission to the event is free as part of the sports activities organized for the town fiesta of Asturias in celebration of the feast of Sr. San Roque.
Conejo said Mayor Dongkoy Dumdum wants to further promote sports in the municipality, making boxing a fitting centerpiece for the celebration.
He added that the organizers are planning to make the boxing event an annual fixture as part of the town’s fiesta festivities.
