Two weather disturbances monitored outside PAR – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Two weather disturbances are currently being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said Saturday, August 8.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the a tropical depression and a low-pressure area (LPA) were spotted east of extreme Northern Luzon.

Pagasa said the two weather disturbances are not expected to have any direct effect on the country, and may not enter the PAR.

As of 4 p.m. on Saturday, the tropical depression was located about 3,055 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon.

It packs a maximum sustained wind speed of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph while moving east at 50 kph.

Meanwhile, an LPA was located some 1,760 km east of extreme Northern Luzon, as of 2 p.m. According to Pagasa, it has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

“Itong dalawang sama ng panahon na ito, ang movement nila ay papalayo sa ating bansa, walang magiging direktang epekto sa lagay ng ating panahon at hindi po ito papasok sa ating Philippine area of responsibility,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel Villamil said in a 5 p.m weather advisory.

(The two weather disturbances are moving away from our country; they will have no direct impact on our weather conditions and will not enter the Philippine area of responsibility.)

On the other hand, Typhoon Dolphin is being monitored inside the country’s Tropical Cyclone Information Domain, which is 825 kilometers north-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, as of 4 p.m.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 150 km per hour and gustiness of up to 185 km per hour.

Pagasa reported that the trough, or the extension, of Dolphin is forecast to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Pagasa earlier said in a weather advisory that Dolphin is expected to further enhance the southwest monsoon, or habagat, bringing rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.
