Talisay Luigi Triathlon Group rules Sunrise Sprint Race

LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines — The vaunted Talisay Luigi Triathlon Group (TLTG)-Go For Gold triathletes flexed their winning form in the Sunrise Sprint Race on Sunday, Aug. 9, at The Mactan Newtown.

The race, a shorter modified triathlon held simultaneously with the IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu Cebu, featured age-groupers and rising triathletes looking to make their mark alongside the centerpiece international race.

After the race, TLTG-Go For Gold emerged as the winningest team, with John Michael Lalimos, Renz Wynn Corbin and Christy Ann Perez topping their respective divisions.

Lalimos was the fastest overall finisher, clocking 1 hour, 12 minutes and 41 seconds. He edged Juan Miguel Tayag, who finished in 1:13:44, while Liam James David placed third in 1:17:16.

Hard training, difficult swim

“Wala gyud ko mag-expect nga modaog kay lisod kaayo ang swim tungod sa current ug sa dagkong bawod,” Lalimos said.

(I did not expect to win because it was hard to swim due to the current and big waves.)

“Pero naningkamot gyud ko ug ni-work hard para modaog. Nag-train pud ko ug pila ka months para ani nga race kay gusto gyud ko modaog. Wala lang gyud ko nag-expect nga lisod kaayo ang swim, mao nang happy kaayo ko nga nidaog ko.”

(But I did my best and worked hard to win. I also trained for several months for this race because I wanted to win. But I did not expect that swimming would be so hard, so I am so happy that I won.)

Corbin, meanwhile, ruled the men’s 25-29 age group in 1:13:02, holding off a strong challenge from Lalimos as the two engaged in a tight sprint toward the finish line.

Lord Cedric Mascarinas finished second in 1:16:10, while Fidel Victor Redillas placed third in 1:20:25.
