Two sisters were killed after a motorcycle struck them while they were crossing the National Highway 66 (NH 66) bypass road in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (August 9, 2026).
The deceased have been identified as Shanthamma (62), and Vijayamm (70), who hailed from Thiruvallam. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. at the at Karimbuvila junction near Thiruvallam.
The sisters were reportedly on their way to a temple in Nagercoil when the accident occurred.
According to preliminary information, the two women were crossing the bypass from the service road. They were holding hands and crossing the road when a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction hit them and threw them onto the road.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital by passersby and local residents, the sisters succumbed to their injuries.
The City police have commenced a hunt to apprehend the motorcyclist and assess the circumstances of the mishap, including the speed of the vehicle. (EOM)
