Review: Affordable mobile gaming with the Samsung Galaxy A27 5G

MANILA, Philippines – The Samsung Galaxy A27 5G could be your go-to phone as a casual gamer.

The moment I got my hands on Samsung’s new Galaxy line, I installed various games to test its capabilities.

I started with a series of MOBAs to see how it can fare against barrages of skills and effects. Then, I went with the more intense graphics of Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.

Boasting a 120Hz refresh rate and packed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, the Samsung Galaxy A27 sits at a casual to moderate level for gaming phones.

You get the experience of smooth gameplay in select titles, but a noticeable struggle in heavier, more powerful titles.

Smooth MOBAs

I hopped into Honor of Kings, Wild Rift, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang to see the difference in quality.

The colors are more vibrant, the gameplay is smooth, and the phone doesn’t overheat. Starting off with MOBAs showed where the Samsung Galaxy A27 could shine best.

The 6.7-inch Infinity-O display also makes games feel more immersive, with slimmer bezels to help stay focused.

Struggling RPGs

Hoyo games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are one of the most demanding games for mobile.

Where Winds Meet is another RPG game that requires maximum graphics to make it enjoyable.

Unfortunately, this is where the A27 struggles. The phone is unable to keep up with the demands and a noticeable lag is present.

The phone does heat up faster, so switching to a low graphic setting helps for smoother gameplay..

While the A27 isn’t meant for heavy RPGs, it surely shines as for more optimized games.

Beyond gaming

The A27 is still a good everyday phone. Its slim and light body makes it easier, with its beautiful exterior as a bonus.

With its price, the battery life is also a plus. Depending on what apps you’re on, or if you’re simply using your phone casually, the battery can last up to two days.

Gaming, however, will definitely drain the battery faster.

The A27 is definitely made for the everyday Filipino, the casual and competitive gamer, and the on-the-go worker.

The Samsung Galaxy A27 5G price ranges at P21,990 for the 8 + 256 GB, and the 6 + 128 GB for P18,990.
