A technology-enabled neurorehabilitation unit equipped with advanced facilities for people recovering from stroke and neurological conditions will be inaugurated at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru, on Monday.
The Person Centered Unit for Neurorehabilitation (PUNARJEEVAN), established at the Centre of Excellence (COE), AIISH, will be inaugurated by Ms. Trishika Kumari Devi Wadiyar of erstwhile Mysuru royal family at 10.30 a.m. as part of the institute’s 61st annual day celebrations.
The unit is equipped with robotic gait training, balance rehabilitation systems, digital cognitive-linguistic therapy, neuromodulation and task-oriented rehabilitation. AIISH has described it as one of the most comprehensive neurorehabilitation facilities of its kind in the country.
The 61st annual day will be celebrated at the AIISH Seminar Hall, Knowledge Park, Naimisham Campus, Manasagangotri. Ms. Trishika Kumari Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family and noted literary personality M. Krishnegowda will be the guests, while AIISH Director M. Pushpavathi will preside over the programme.
The public function will begin at 2 p.m. Success stories, assessment materials, intervention tools, public education pamphlets and learning materials related to communication disorders developed by AIISH will be released on the occasion.
Retired employees of AIISH and employees who have completed 25 years of service will be felicitated. The AIISHian of the Year Award 2026 will also be presented.
The formal proceedings will be followed by a cultural programme at 3.30 p.m., featuring classical and contemporary dance, musical performances and theatrical acts by students and staff, highlighting social themes.
AIISH, established in 1965 for human resource development, research, clinical services and public education in the field of communication disorders, began functioning as the All India Institute of Logopedics in a rented building at Rama Mandir on August 9, 1965. B.M. Rao was its first Director.
The institute has since grown into a premier institution in South Asia in the field of communication disorders, offering certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and providing diagnostic and therapeutic services for persons with communication disorders, according to a release here.
