Activities such as arts and painting play an important role in fostering patriotism, national spirit and creativity among students, said NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha at a painting competition organised jointly by Bright Minds and the Lions Club at Bapu Museum in Vijayawada on Sunday.

Attending the event as chief guest as part of the Independence Day celebrations, the Collector urged the students to develop their creative skills alongside academic education.

Expressing patriotic feelings through paintings would further strengthen a sense of national pride among students, he said, and appreciated the students for depicting themes such as the tricolour, national leaders, and the spirit of independence through their artwork.

Nearly 250 children participated in the competition, which was conducted in four categories. After the competition, prizes, certificates and mementos were distributed to the students. The awards were presented by prominent doctor Y.S. Babu, Bapu Museum Commissioner Suresh Babu, Tagore Memorial Library officer K. Ramadevi, and others
