According to Ukrinform, Streeting wrote in an article for The Sunday Times that winter in Ukraine was no longer just a season, but a weapon.

Streeting visited Ukraine last week to discuss preparations for winter amid Russian shelling. In previous years, Russia has attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during the cold season.

The minister noted that although Putin is currently losing the war, “Ukrainians know what winter brings and how it can change the situation.”

He said that he was returning from Kyiv with a clear understanding of what Ukraine needed to survive that winter. He added that where the United Kingdom could provide the necessary resources, it would do so, and where it could not, his task was to mobilize allies to find such opportunities.

According to Wes Streeting, his goal—along with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius, with whom he co-chairs the Contact Group on Ukraine’s Defense—“is to turn the goodwill of some 50 countries into concrete assistance, to convert commitments into capabilities.”

The British minister emphasized that this had to include an increase in resources for air defense.

It is noted that the next meeting of the “Ramstein” Contact Group is expected in September. Significant attention at that meeting will likely be devoted to the supply of air defense systems.
