Brownout warning up in Metro Cebu for Aug. 10
CEBU CITY, Philippines — Households and businesses in Metro Cebu and nearby towns faced another round of possible power interruptions on Monday.
The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said it may implement manual load dropping (MLD) across the Visayas grid from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., citing the non-availability of imported power from the Mindanao grid.
The grid operator’s advisory covered a wide list of Visayas electric cooperatives and distribution utilities, including Visayan Electric (Veco), Mactan Electric Company (Meco), and the three Cebu electric cooperatives (Cebeco I, II, and III), among others across Negros, Panay, Bohol, and Leyte.

A separate set of Leyte and Samar-based cooperatives faced a shorter window, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
NGCP said the schedule may be cancelled if system conditions improve, such as if actual demand falls below projections, and it appealed to the public to use electricity prudently.

Following the advisory, Veco warned of a possible one-hour rotational brownout in portions of its franchise area.
Outages staggered across different barangays in hourly blocks from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Areas placed on alert for the 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. block included portions of Cebu City:
- Basak Pardo
- Basak San Nicolas
- Cogon Pardo
- Inayawan
- Kinasang-an
- Mambaling
- Poblacion Pardo
Parts of Talisay City, Naga City, and San Fernando town will also experience potential brownouts on Monday.
The 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. block covered additional portions of San Fernando, Naga City, Minglanilla, and other Cebu City barangays such as Camputhaw, Capitol Site, Guadalupe, Kalubihan, Kalunasan, and Lahug.
From 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., the utility flagged more areas in Cebu City, Talisay City, and Consolacion town, including barangays Buhisan, Calamba, Ermita, Labangon, Pahina Central, Punta Princesa, and Toong.
The 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. window listed parts of Consolacion, Liloan, and Mandaue City, while the 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. block named other portions of Mandaue City, Naga City, and Minglanilla.
For the final block, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Veco listed portions of Consolacion, Mandaue City, and Liloan, along with a wide stretch of upland and coastal Cebu City barangays. In particular, Adlaon, Agsungot, Bacayan, Binaliw, Budlaan, Cambinocot, Guba, Kalubihan, Lanipga, Lusaran, Mabini, Paril, Pit-os, Pulangbato, San Jose, and Talamban.
Veco said the brownout schedule may still change depending on actual grid conditions and further directives from NGCP.
Additionally, the utility firm assured the public it would continue monitoring the situation and issue updates as needed.
