The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Hyderabad will provide free heart surgeries for children as part of its annual social health programme.
Prior appointment not required
Children requiring heart surgery can approach NIMS directly from August 13, 2026. Screening and consultations will be conducted on a walk-in basis, and no prior appointment is required. Priority will be given based on medical necessity. Following clinical evaluation and the required medical tests, children found to be in need of surgery will be provided the procedures free of cost.
Timings, place and contact number
Parents and guardians can visit the CT Surgery Office on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. from Monday to Saturday. They have been advised to bring previous medical records and test reports, if available. For enquiries, the CT Surgery Office can be contacted on 040-2348 9025.
The programme is conducted annually for the past five years to provide specialised cardiac care to children who require surgery. The procedures will be carried out under the supervision of Amaresh Rao, Head of the Department of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery in collaboration with a team of technical experts from the UK and London-based paediatric cardiac surgeon Ramana Dhannapuneni.
