BIR extends tax deadlines to Aug. 17 in storm-hit areas

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has extended to Aug. 17 the statutory tax deadlines for taxpayers in areas affected by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat).

Under Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 89-2026, the BIR said the extension covers 58 of its offices and units, including 53 regular revenue district offices (RDOs) and five Large Taxpayer Audit and Excise Divisions.

The affected areas include Metro Manila and parts of Southern Luzon, including Cavite, Batangas, Rizal and Mindoro.

In Northern Luzon, the extension covers Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mountain Province. It also covers Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales in Central Luzon.

The extension applies to specified tax filings, payments, remittances, registration requirements and other required submissions made through e-Filing, e-Payment and manual channels.

Meanwhile, Bank Bulletin No. 2026-09 covers the acceptance by authorized agent banks (AABs) of applicable tax returns and payments from taxpayers under the affected RDOs also until Aug. 17, without the imposition of corresponding penalties.

“We recognize the difficulties brought about by the prevailing weather conditions. We are giving our affected taxpayers additional time so they can prioritize their safety this week and comply with their tax obligations without having to worry about penalties,” BIR Commissioner Charlie Mendoza said in a statement. /pai
