SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's space agency on Tuesday announced a revision aimed at easing the process to conduct multiple space launches and establishing a framework for the safe management of launch sites.

The partial amendment to the Space Development Promotion Act is set to take effect starting Feb. 12, 2027, according to the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA).

Under the changes, individuals who wish to conduct space launches multiple times at the same launch site within a five-year period can request for permits for such launches all at once, instead of having to receive permits for each launch.

KASA will be able to designate the premises near a launch site as a "launch safety zone" subject to building and zoning limits, the space agency said.

In addition, a clause has been added that grants the defense minister the right to permit launches of projectiles when it is for national security purposes, which KASA said will help the government respond promptly to launches that are linked to the protection of the country.
