Two persons died allegedly after mosquito-control fogging was carried out in Upputhottam near Annur in Coimbatore district on Tuesday (August 11, 2026), prompting the police to inquire into the circumstances. A link between the deaths and the fogging has not been established.

The Annur town panchayat had carried out mosquito-control fogging around houses in the locality. Residents said smoke entered some houses during the operation.

Mohan (65) and Rani alias Prema (75), died subsequently. Some residents alleged that the pesticide used for fogging could have contributed to the deaths.

However, police said a preliminary inquiry indicated that both had been suffering from health issues and had been undergoing treatment for the past few weeks. Their deaths appeared to be related to the worsening of their illnesses, officials said.

The police are continuing their inquiry to ascertain the cause of death and whether there was any connection with the fogging operation.
