21 dead, over 3 million affected due to 'Luis,' 'Maymay,' habagat — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The combined effects of tropical cyclones Luis, Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon have left 21 people dead and 14 injured, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

According to the NDRRMC on Thursday, August 13, the weather disturbances have impacted 1,087,246 families or 3,733,883 individuals across Metro Manila and nine other regions.

A total of 553 evacuation centers remain operational, providing temporary shelter to 15,017 families or 53,570 persons.

The recorded deaths are the following:

Benguet: 15

• La Trinidad: 2 (due to landslide)
• Baguio: 10 (due to landslide)
• Atok: 3 (due to landslide)

Rizal: 3

• Rodriguez: 2 (due to rockslide)
• Antipolo: 1 (due to fallen tree)

Batangas: 3

• Batangas: 1 (due to drowning)
• Lipa: 1 (due to electrocution)
• Santa Teresita: 1 (due to landslide)

There are also three recorded persons missing, according to the NDRRMC.

A total of 1,339 homes were damaged, which includes 1,336 partially damaged houses and 103 that were destroyed. Infrastructure losses reached P2,647,707,229, while damage to crops and agricultural facilities was valued at P347,372,392.

In response, government agencies and local government units have so far extended P458,024,188 worth of relief assistance to help impacted families.
