The Piler police in Annamayya district on Wednesday (August 12, 2026) night arrested a 41-year-old woman and a man on charges of murdering her husband, whom they allegedly saw as an obstacle to their relationship.
Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunubilli said the accused, Mangineni Umadevi of Piler town and Charala Subrahmanyam, 32, of Chandragiri in Tirupati district, allegedly planned the murder and attempted to pass it off as a road accident.
On August 7, Umadevi allegedly mixed sleeping pills supplied by Charala Subrahmanyam in the breakfast she gave her husband, Mangineni Venkata Subrahmanyam, 46. After he fell unconscious, Charala Subrahmanyam was allegedly called to the house, and the two allegedly killed her husband with an iron rod and a stone.
The SP said the two later carried the body on a scooter and left it on the Madanapalle-Tirupati highway. The police recovered the weapons used and the blood-stained clothes.
