Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Andhra Pradesh State president Ch. Narasinga Rao on Thursday (August 13, 2026) condemned the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant management’s circulars of August 10, which restrict workers from sharing or forwarding plant-related information with the media.

Addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Narasinga Rao and CITU State secretary R.K.S.V. Kumar alleged that the restrictions were aimed at suppressing workers’ voices, and sought the withdrawal of the circulars.

The union alleged that steel plant workers were owed ₹900 crore in salaries, and that the management held reserves of the same amount. It also alleged that skilled workers had been removed, that workloads had increased as a result, and that workplace accidents were continuing.

CITU sought the reinstatement of the contract workers who had been removed, and compensation of ₹1 crore for the family of each worker killed in the June 8 accident at the steel melting shop.
