Former Union Minister and Home Secretary R.K. Singh has sought answers from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on how many patrolling points the Indian government has given up since 2014. He made these claims citing a recent report that Indian forces have allegedly abandoned a patrolling point called Shera 5 in the Taksing area of Arunachal Pradesh.

In a video post on X on August 12, 2026, former MP from Bihar’s Arrah parliamentary seat, Mr. Singh said, “I spent eight years in the Ministry of Defence and seven years in the Ministry of Home Affairs. I read a report today which gives me worry, and it should worry all the citizens of our country. It appears that we have abandoned a patrolling point called Shera 5 in Taksing in Arunachal, and the Chinese have established a prominent position there.”

Mr. Singh, who has become vocal against the government following his suspension from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in November 2025, then explained what it means when patrolling is abandoned.

“The Chinese and us, have a dispute about the borders, and that dispute has been carrying on ever since the Chinese occupied Aksai Chin. The 1962 war was about that; the Chinese do not accept the McMahon Line as a border. They are also not willing to demarcate the Line of Actual Control (LAC) because they have huge claims into our territory, including the entire Arunachal Pradesh.”Mr. Singh said.

He added, “Now, because of these totally differing perceptions about where the border is and where the Line of Actual Control is, we carry out patrolling. Our patrols go up to points along our perceived Line of Actual Control and Chinese patrols come up to patrolling points along their perceived Line of Actual Control.”

He pointed out that this patrolling shows a marker; it shows where our claim line lies, so when the negotiations do happen, our perception of the claim line is very clear. That’s why patrolling up to these points is essential, so that our claim line is specifically communicated to the other side. Mr. Singh added that that’s the reason the Chinese also patrol to points along with their claim.

Mr. Singh alleged that when you abandon a patrolling point along your claim line and the Chinese occupy that means you have given up your claim. He added that one patrolling point where India has given up the claim has been reported in the newspapers.

He asked, “I want to know; the nation wants to know how many other patrolling points the government has given up since 2014. Is this the only patrolling point which the government has given up and the Chinese have occupied? Or are there other patrolling points which this government gave up, patrolling points which were being patrolled where our patrols used to go before 2014?”

Mr. Singh sought answers from the government, asserting that it concerns the whole country.

“This also gives a message about how pusillanimous, I will call it, this government is, that it cannot stand up even to the claim of the country. The Defence Minister and Prime Minister need to answer how many patrolling points have been abandoned since 2014 because giving up the claim on any points is not possible without the approval of the Prime Minister,“ Mr. Singh said.

A former IAS officer, Mr. Singh joined the BJP in 2013 and repeatedly attacked the BJP leaders during the State Assembly election in November 2025. He even questioned the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidates and accused the Nitish Kumar government of a ₹62,000 crore power scam in Bihar.
