MOSCOW, August 13. /TASS/. While observing the Pacific Fleet’s military exercises, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a separate meeting on ensuring the security of the country’s eastern borders.

Participants included Pacific Fleet Commander Viktor Liina, Sakhalin Region FSB Border Guard Service Head Sergey Makhorin, and Defense Ministry’s 68th Guards Army Corps Acting Commander Alexey Shvedov.

Meeting course

• The Russian leader stated that the main tasks are being addressed today as part of the special military operation, but it is necessary to "ensure the security of the Russian state along all its borders and across all its territories."

• Putin also noted that the territory within the Pacific Fleet’s area of responsibility is "complex."

Putin’s trip

• The Russian leader arrived to observe the final stage of the Pacific Fleet’s exercises on August 12.

• On board the Pacific Fleet’s flagship, he heard a report from Fleet Commander Viktor Liina and made a number of statements, in particular about the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and plans to bolster the Pacific Fleet.

• Putin also observed the maneuvers and live-fire exercises from the command bridge of the Guards missile cruiser Varyag, the Pacific Fleet’s flagship. Then, he had lunch with the crew.

• The head of state thanked the commander and all the sailors for conducting the exercises, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the combat readiness of the fleet and all of Russia’s Armed Forces.

Pacific Fleet exercises

• On August 4, the Pacific Fleet began exercises to defend the Far Eastern frontiers.

• Nearly 60 surface ships, submarines, and support vessels, about 30 aircraft, helicopters, and drones, as well as over 13,000 servicemen took part in the maneuvers in the waters of the Sea of Japan, the Sea of Okhotsk, and the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
