Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"A targeted strike by a jet-powered Shahed on the locomotive of a passenger train in the Odesa region. Unfortunately, I have to report the worst: according to the information currently available, this strike left no chance for our locomotive crew – the driver and his assistant," Pertsovskyi said.

According to him, after a drone threat was detected, the monitoring team issued an order for the train to stop. At that moment, the train was entering a station to allow passengers to evacuate safely. The locomotive crew did not have enough time to bring the train to a complete stop and evacuate themselves.

A total of 340 passengers and the train crew have now been evacuated to a safe location. There were no casualties among them. Buses have been arranged to transport the passengers to Odesa.

On August 6, Russian forces struck a railway carriage near the railway station in Lozova, Kharkiv region, killing and injuring people.
