Poldark actress Beatie Edney has revealed she set herself on fire in a 'stupid and dangerous' kitchen accident.

The stage and screen star, 63, shocked her Instagram followers when she shared a photo of her heavily burned red shirt on Wednesday.

She told fans that the cotton top went up in flames when cooking and she burnt her hair as she 'ripped it off'.

Alongside the red burnt blouse, Beatie confirmed she is OK and warned fans to be careful when cooking.

She wrote: 'I’m OK, but just did a very stupid and dangerous thing. Turning off my hob my flimsy cotton shirt caught fire. I managed to rip it off, burning my hair on the way.

'This is the result of the burning. It’s a favourite shirt! Was!! Be careful out there folks.'

Beatie took to Instagram last month to reveal her Poldark co-star Tom York had married his model girlfriend Kara Milner.

Beatie revealed the happy news in an Instagram post, sharing a short clip from the dancefloor at the wedding, and revealing the Poldark-packed guestlist.

Tom, 34, is best known for playing Sam Carne in the BBC series, the protective older brother of Demelza played by Eleanor Tomlinson, 34.

Eleanor was invited to the big day, posing for selfies with Beatie, who played Prudie Paynter maid and companion to the Poldark family, and her onscreen brother Tom.

Turlough Convery, who played gamekeeper and henchman Tom Harry, also joined the fun along with Freddie Wise, who played Geoffrey Charles, nephew of the show's protagonist and the drama's screenwriter and executive producer Debbie Horsfield.

'Tom York got married to his love Kara,' Beatie captioned the post. 'Several of our Poldark family were there to celebrate including @eleanortomlinson and our fabulous writer #debbiehorsfield as well as #freddiewise and #turloughconvery.'

'Being careful who and what I post. It was a beautiful and amazing wedding, full of joy, love, laughter and friendship.'

Poldark, based on the novels of Winston Graham, focused on the burgeoning relationship between Cornwall gentleman Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) and his scullery maid turned wife, Demelza (Eleanor Tomlinson).

Over five seasons, which aired between 2015 and 2019, it set pulses racing with its love triangles, bedroom romps and upstairs-downstairs affairs.

The series adapted the first seven of the 12 novels, which were previously adapted by the 1975-1977 BBC television series.

For the final season Horsfield, who had written the series since its premiere, diverged from the books for the first time to pen her own chapter of the saga, set nine years before the events of the eighth novel.

The final series was criticised by some for its 'jumpy approach to time and ludicrous storylines' but many fans called for more episodes.

There is more source material in Graham's unadapted novels and Aidan Turner, who played the title character and now stars in the hit Disney Plus show Rivals, has said that whilst he is unlikely to return to a lead role a future reboot could focus on the next generation of Poldarks.

'There are some books... I need to check what books they are. I think Ross is quite a bit older,' he told the Radio Times in 2022.

'I think Jeremy, Ross's son, he's 16 or 18 or something. And I think when we left Ross, I think Jeremy might only be 10. I'm not quite sure.'
