The Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham has urged Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar to provide ₹50 lakh as compensation and a government job to a family member of a 40-year-old farmer who was electrocuted after a snapped 11-KV power line fell on his agricultural field at Kasapuram in Guntakal mandal on Tuesday.

In a letter to the Energy Minister, Rythu Sangham State president V. Krishnaiah blamed the negligence of the electricity department authorities for the incident. The farmer, Boya Anjaneyulu, died on the spot while working in the field. An ox also died.

The repeated requests to the authorities to replace the ageing electricity power lines yielded no results, he said.

He said Anjaneyulu was the sole breadwinner of the family comprising his wife Neelavathi, two daughters and a 16-year-old son. His younger daughter Hemalatha, 22, is pursuing B.Tech, while his son Lal Prasad is studying Intermediate second year. His elder daughter Kavitha is married.

The Rythu Sangham said Anjaneyulu had also been supporting his elderly mother and a differently abled sister. He owned two acres of agricultural land and had been cultivating additional land on lease. The accident occurred on the leased agricultural land.

The Rythu Sangham demanded that the government pay ₹50 lakh as compensation to the bereaved family and provide a job to one of its members. It also sought ₹1 lakh compensation for the ox that died in the accident.
