The Government Railway Police (GRP) have launched an investigation after
three students allegedly pelted stones at Podanur–Mettupalayam MEMU train (66620) between Narasimhanaickenpalayam and Periyanaickenpalayam on Wednesday night.
The train’s windshield broke in the incident, and its loco pilot, Denny Thomas, suffered a minor injury. GRP sources said a case has been registered in connection with the incident, and the three students have been identified.
The incident took place near Puthupalayam railway bridge around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, before the train reached Periyanaickenpalayam. The students were pelting stones at each other, standing on opposite sides of the track. They continued to throw stones even as the train approached them, and a stone struck the windshield.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) initially conducted an investigation and alerted the GRP about the incident. The GRP subsequently launched an investigation and registered a case. GRP sources said that the students were attending examinations and that further action will be taken against them soon.
