Summer brings with it nice weather, picnics in the park, and Marvel Rivals' skimpiest outfits. The latest batch of skins for NetEase Games' superhero shooter includes beach attire for Storm, Magik, and Scarlet Witch. Storm's, however, caused quite a controversy in the community as soon as it was announced, but NetEase has responded to the backlash in near record time.

The community's issue is centered on the different tiers each new skin was assigned. In Marvel Rivals, every skin is designated as Rare, Epic, or Legendary. Each higher tier costs more but also adds more special features. The latest summer skins for Magik and Scarlet Witch are Legendary, while Storm's is only Epic.

This fueled an ongoing discussion among fans about which characters receive more attention and content. For context, Storm only has one Legendary skin, while Magik and Scarlet Witch have six and five respectively. In fact, Storm is the only female character in the game to receive a summer skin in Marvel Rivals that isn't Legendary tier. It seemed to fans that there was no obvious reason to make Storm's skin an Epic tier while the two other new summer skins were Legendary. With no explanation from NetEase Games, fans were left to perceive the choice as a slight against Storm.

Backlash to the initial announcement post of Storm's new skin was so prevalent that NetEase Games course corrected in about 12 hours. In a lengthy post on Marvel Rivals' X account, the developer acknowledged the community's feedback regarding the skin and laid out a plan to rectify the issue. The Sacred Skies skin will be upgraded to Legendary for free and will come with a new lobby animation and updated MVP animation. The skin will remain priced at $16. Players will also receive an ultimate-effect upgrade, which changes the visual effects of a hero's ultimate ability. Finally, the developer assured fans that Storm would receive more Legendary tier costumes in the near future. No release dates have been announced.
