Two unidentified men riding a motorcycle allegedly snatched a gold mangalsutra from a 39-year-old woman in Doddabidarakallu near Nagasandra in the early hours of Wednesday (August 12).
The incident occurred around 5.15 a.m., when Vijiyamma, a milk vendor and resident of Gangamahime Layout, was walking towards her shop near Panchamukhi Ganesh Temple.
According to her complaint lodged with the Peenya police, the two men followed her on a motorcycle before the pillion rider allegedly grabbed the mangalsutra from her neck and fled with his accomplice. Vijiyamma was injured when she tried to resist and fell on the ground. She raised an alarm, but by the time help came, the duo had escaped. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV installed nearby.
The stolen chain weighed around 15 grams and was valued at approximately ₹1.2 lakh, according to the police complaint.
The complainant told police that the chain had been made by her parents around 20 years ago at the time of her marriage.
The police visited the spot and registered a case. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the motorcycle-borne suspects and trace their movements.
