The TVK-led government in Tamil Nadu will rework the proposal for Coimbatore Metro Rail and submit it to the Union government, said Minister for Backward Classes V. Sampathkumar on Thursday (August 13).

The Minister told reporters in Coimbatore that the Centre had rejected the proposals submitted by the previous DMK government. The TVK-led government has initiated discussions as Coimbatore requires a metro rail. A detailed project report will be prepared and submitted to the Centre.

The Centre rejected the Coimbatore Metro Rail project last month saying that it had studied the project in its entirety and that a metro rail project is not viable for the city.

Regarding Coimbatore International Airport expansion, he said 90% of the land has been acquired and issues related to the remaining land will be settled soon. “You will see work on this front soon,” he said.
