Two persons died of electrocution and another was injured when a newly built iron temple chariot that they were moving came into contact with an overhead electric wire at Nannai village in Kunnam taluk in Perambalur district on Thursday (August 13, 2026) night.

The police have identified the deceased as P. Annadurai (43) and G. Paramasivam (42), both from Nannai village. The injured person K. Rasu (50) was admitted to the Perambalur Government Hospital.

Police sources said the incident occurred at around 8.30 p.m. when the three persons were moving the newly built chariot of the Ayyanar temple at Nannai village onto the temple premises.

The top portion of the chariot came into contact with an overhead electric wire as the three persons were moving it into the temple compound. The three suffered electric shock, and Annadurai and Paramasivam died on the spot. Rasu sustained an injury and was rushed to the government hospital for treatment. The Kunnam police are investigating the incident.
