Cebu City stabbing: Security guard faces murder charge after neighbor dies

CEBU CITY, Philippines — A murder charge is being prepared against a security guard after a 30-year-old man died hours after he was allegedly stabbed during a confrontation in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, on Thursday morning, August 13.

The stabbing happened at around 6:10 a.m. in Sitio Tugasan, according to Guadalupe Police Station of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).

Stabbing follows altercation

The victim, 30, and the suspect, also of legal age, are both residents of Sitio Tugasan.

Initial police investigation showed that the two neighbors were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in different parts of the body.

The victim was immediately brought to a private hospital in Cebu City for medical treatment but died several hours after the incident, police said.

Personal grudge cited

Guadalupe police said a personal grudge is being considered as the motive behind the stabbing.

Police said the two neighbors had previously been involved in conflicts and arguments. Investigators are still determining whether the incident stemmed from a long-standing dispute.

Authorities have yet to disclose the specific nature of the alleged personal grudge, as police are still seeking approval from the parties of both the suspect and victim before divulging the information.

Murder charge being prepared

Police are preparing a murder complaint against the suspect.

Investigators are still awaiting the victim’s death certificate to establish the exact time of death and the number of stab wounds he sustained.

The case is expected to be filed either Monday or Tuesday next week, according to Guadalupe police.

As of Friday, August 14, the suspect remains detained at Guadalupe Police Station pending the filing of the said charge against him.
