Luigi Mangione to plead guilty to federal stalking charges in connection with slaying of Brian Thompson

Mangione, 27, also faces murder charges filed by state prosecutors

Luigi Mangione, the man accused of gunning down health insurance executive Brian Thompson on a Manhattan sidewalk in 2024, intends to plead guilty in his federal criminal case, court was told on Friday.

Mangione, 27, previously pleaded not guilty in April 2025 to murder, weapons and stalking charges brought by Manhattan federal prosecutors, but the judge in the case threw out the murder and weapons charges over legal technicalities in a January ruling, leaving two stalking charges in places.

It's not clear what effect, if any, a guilty plea would have on the second-degree murder charges filed in a separate case filed by New York State officials. That trial in that case is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8.
