Jif, the popular peanut butter brand, is giving its beloved jar a makeover for the first time in 30 years.
The new packaging modernizes the brand’s red, blue, and green striped logo, featuring brighter colors and clearer lettering.
The brand said it removed the shadow from the logo for a “cleaner, bolder look,” while also adding recipe ideas to the front of the packaging to “keep inspiration front and center.”
Images show Jif peanut butter being served on an apple slice, rice cake, cracker or being enjoyed straight from the spoon.
Alongside the new rebrand, Jif has unveiled a new squeezable packaging format in various flavors, including Peanut Butter & Chocolate spread and Jif Simply, an unsweetened and no-sugar-added version, for easy spreading without utensils.
The new packaging will be rolled out to stores beginning this October and should be on shelves throughout the fall and early winter.
Peanut butter and jelly fans have also been reassured that the nostalgic taste of Jif won’t change, and that it’s just the packaging that’s had a glow-up.
“We’re excited to introduce a refreshed look for Jif that better celebrates the role the brand plays in consumers’ everyday lives,” said Shelly Kowal, Marketing Director at The J.M. Smucker Co., in a press release.
“This is our first major design update in more than 30 years, and we approached it with real intention. We wanted to honor the iconic elements people know and love while bringing new energy to the shelf.
“Jif has evolved from being one of the key ingredients in a PB&J to also serving as a delicious complement to so many snacking occasions, and this new branding celebrates that.”
The pantry staple landed on shelves in 1958 with a creamy smooth spread, then a crunchy variety. The original jars featured the brand's former kangaroo mascot, Jifaroo, alongside the tri-color Jif logo.
In 1986, the brand switched its jars from glass to plastic to make them shatterproof, and by 2020, it launched its first squeezy variety of its Creamy Peanut Butter, called Jif Squeeze.
The peanut butter, a mainstay in PB&J sandwiches across the nation, is made in Kentucky, which is the largest peanut butter production facility in the world.
Today, the brand sells dozens of different types of Jif peanut butter, including Creamy, Extra Crunchy, No Sugar Added Creamy, Simply Jif Creamy (low sodium and sugar), Omega-3 Creamy, Reduced Fat Creamy, Natural Creamy, Natural Honey Creamy and Natural Crunchy.
