Arado comes back to where her volley dreams started as PLDT battles Akari

For Iligan’s pride, Kath Arado, PVL On Tour’s stop in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, is more than just a game. It is a chance to return to the place where her volleyball dreams began and now inspire the next generation of dreamers watching from the stands.

“When I walked into the gym, it brought me back to when I was starting out,” Arado said in Filipino as she leads the PLDT defense in their clash with Akari on Saturday. “I remembered being the one who idolized players, hoping to see them and trying to get their attention.”

Arado’s journey from an aspiring volleyball player to one of the league’s top liberos comes full circle in the pro league’s first-ever game at 6:30 p.m. at the Mindanao Civic Center Gymnasium in Tubod, just an hour from her hometown.

“I’m also very thankful because as players, we wouldn’t be recognized without the fans who constantly support us and follow volleyball.”

Arado, who played for the University of the East in the UAAP before becoming a pro player, was happy that the fans from Lanao finally get to see PVL action live.

They get a double treat when Nxled and Farm Fresh clash in the first game at 4:30 p.m.

“A lot of people have been waiting for this,” she added. “I’m happy that the On Tour gives fans from provinces who may not have the chance or can’t afford to watch their idols live an opportunity to see us play.

“It’s great that we’re here in Lanao, and I know the people here will make us feel welcome,” she went on. “They’ve always been very warm and caring. I’m really excited, and I hope everyone enjoys watching us.”

From being an aspiring kid from Iligan, Arado played as a Red Warrior with pride in the UAAP, earned a chance to see action for the national team before emerging as one of the most decorated players in the PVL with six Best Libero awards and the Invitational Conference Finals MVP.
