The SBU said this in a statement seen by Ukrinform.

"According to the investigation, the spotter was a local man who had been recruited by the enemy and deserted from a Ukrainian Armed Forces training center before taking the oath. While hiding at his home, the suspect began looking for 'easy' ways to make money through Telegram channels. A Russian intelligence officer contacted him in one of the thematic groups and offered him cooperation," the statement said.

In exchange for the promise of "quick" earnings, the agent began monitoring the positions of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the frontline city.

"The enemy's priority targets included reserve command posts and combat positions of Ukrainian air defense units protecting the airspace over the Dnipropetrovsk region. The suspect was documented moving around the area to secretly photograph and mark on Google Maps facilities that he believed were being used by Ukrainian defenders," the SBU said.

Counterintelligence officers exposed the suspect at an early stage of his espionage activities and detained him at a private residence.

At the same time, measures were taken to secure Ukrainian military positions and troop movement routes.

During a search, investigators seized a mobile phone containing evidence of the suspect's cooperation with Russian military intelligence.

SBU investigators notified him that he was suspected of high treason under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, committed under martial law.

The suspect has been remanded in custody without the right to post bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
