Jason Arday’s family issues statement after academic found dead

• Former University of Cambridge professor Jason Arday has been pronounced dead after being found unresponsive at a property in Battersea, London.
• The Metropolitan Police said that the academic's death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious.
• Prof Arday's family said they are “in shock to have lost this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son”, adding that he was subjected to a sustained campaign of abuse and misinformation following media reports questioning his academic work.
• He had recently resigned from his post as Cambridge's youngest Black professor after plagiarism allegations, although an internal inquiry by Liverpool John Moores University cleared him of wrongdoing.
• Education Secretary Lucy Powell expressed her deep sadness at the news and urged the public and press to respect his family's privacy.
