While many of Hollywood's biggest stars from the 1990s are no longer regular fixtures on the red carpet, their occasional appearances continue to turn heads with their age-defying looks.

One such celeb is Geena Davis, 70, who is looking remarkably youthful as she makes a long-awaited return to our screens as Renee Joyce in Netflix's recent sci-fi series The Boroughs.

From fresh-faced Instagram selfies to red-carpet soft glam and tousled brunette tresses, the actress has been dazzling fans everywhere with her timeless beauty during the promo tour for her latest series.

It marks one of Davis's first major screen roles in recent years, having largely kept a low profile following the success of Thelma \& Louise, A League of Their Own, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Beetlejuice in the late 1980s and 1990s.

She's far from alone.

Many of the actors and actresses who dominated the big screen during the 1990s have chosen quieter lives away from the public eye, yet, when they do re-emerge, they appear to have aged with incredible grace – and often looking far younger than their years.

The secret to Davis's look? Strictly avoiding the sun.

In an interview with NewBeauty, she shared: 'I'm firmly convinced that part of it is that I don't take the sun. I always have sunblock on. It's been that way since I was 22 or something... I think that really saved me a lot of problems with my skin. I've avoided the sun forever.'

From Michelle Pfeiffer to Dame Julie Walters, discover how nine stars are redefining ageing in Hollywood as they enter their 70s.

Now: The actress has credited her incredible look to a range of factors: prioritising sleep, exercise, eating organically and protecting her skin from the sun

One of Hollywood's most sought-after leading actresses throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Michelle Pfeiffer earned global acclaim for films including Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Batman Returns and One Fine Day.

While she still acts, starring as of 2026 in TV series like The Madison and Margo's Got Money Troubles, the Oscar-nominated actress has become far more selective about the projects she takes on and spends much of her time away from the industry.

Whether she's gracing the red carpet or posting makeup-free selfies on Instagram, Michelle is frequently praised by fans for maintaining a seemingly ageless appearance without undergoing drastic or noticeable procedures.

The actress has credited her incredible look to a range of factors: prioritising sleep, exercise, eating organically and protecting her skin from the sun, with an emphasis on looking healthy rather than trying to look younger.

During an appearance on Lorraine in 2021, she told the host: 'It's what nobody really wants to hear – you have to eat right, you have to exercise, you have to sleep.'

'We're always looking for that cheating magical bullet but it's not right.

'When I’m not working, when I'm giving myself leeway, when I’m not eating good, I’m having too much wine, when I’m not on camera, I look like it, that's really it. So that's the big secret – there's no secret!'

But a source told the Daily Mail in May: 'She has a team of experts in Los Angeles like a facialist, a hair color wiz, a trainer that all specialise in natural beauty aesthetics.

'She uses all organic products, nothing toxic ever comes near her, she is super careful and reads every label before putting it on her skin.

The source added: 'Most facials involve the use of chemical products like exfoliants, serums and chemical peels that have glycolic, lactic or salicylic acid, but Michelle won't use those.'

And she is also all organic with what she eats. 'That includes food labels – she won't have anything processed or that has involved antibiotics or GMOs.'

All of her food – fish, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds – are stamped organic as she demands 100 percent transparency from her organic foods, even if it's an apple.

Kim Basinger, 72

Now: Although Kim rarely comments publicly on the aging process, she has previously said she has learned to accept getting older while maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle

Kim Basinger dominated Hollywood throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, starring in Batman, 9 1/2 Weeks and Oscar-winning crime drama L.A. Confidential.

In recent years, however, the actress has largely stepped away from the industry, making only occasional public appearances and taking on fewer acting roles.

However, she continues to maintain her status as one of Hollywood's most elegant stars into her 70s, with fans quick to comment on her youthful looks when she does step onto a red carpet.

While she rarely speaks publicly about the aging process or cosmetic enhancements, she has previously said she has learned to accept getting older while maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

In 2014, Kim told Interview Magazine: 'You have to trust the journey. That has become my motto for years: trust the journey. Because in the end, we’re all kind of fearful. We all have fears and insecurities and ups and downs.'

Insiders also point to her strict vegan diet, sun protection and hydration-based skincare routine as secrets behind her ageless appearance.

A source close to the actress told Closer Weekly: 'She's big on hydration, she drinks liters of water every day and avoids caffeine. She's always slathered in SPF. She says avoiding the sun all these years is the biggest reason her skin still looks so good.'

Nevertheless, cosmetic surgeons believe the actress has relied on a little professional help to stay wrinkle-free in her seventies.

Dr Omar Tillo, a medical director and senior plastic surgeon at plastic surgery clinic CREO, told the Express: 'I'd say it is likely that Kim has enhanced her appearance with some treatments. If you look at previous photos, you can see apparent lines and wrinkles around Kim's eyes (crow’s feet).'

He further suggested Kim may have been treated with anti-wrinkle injectables and dermal filler around her mouth area.

Emma Thompson, 67

Then: Emma Thompson in 1989

Now: Today, Emma repeatedly clamps down on cosmetic surgery and beauty pressures, arguing that women should be allowed to age naturally without apology

Emma Thompson became one of Britain's most celebrated actresses during the 1990s, with acclaimed performances in Howards End, and Sense and Sensibility, and later Nanny McPhee, Love Actually and Harry Potter.

While she's still in active roles today, Emma has become increasingly outspoken about society's obsession with looking young, referring to 'tweakments' like fillers and Botox as a 'form of collective psychosis'.

She has also repeatedly criticised cosmetic surgery and beauty pressures, arguing that women should be allowed to age naturally without apology.

In an interview with People Magazine in 2022, she vehemently denied having or considering plastic surgery, adding: 'Why would you do that to yourself, I simply don't understand.'

On the red carpet, the actress continues to flaunt her elegant style and effortlessly radiant look – with much of it coming down to balanced eating, adequate sleep, holistic health and daily movement.

The actress told The Sunday Times that her she 'feels' like she looks her age and 'likes' looking her age, noting that she applies concealer under her eyes if she feels she needs it.

Dame Julie Walters, 76

Now: Despite her rare public appearances, Julie continues to look radiant whenever she steps onto the red carpet

Julie Walters enjoyed a hugely successful career spanning stage and screen in the 90s after her memorable role in Educating Rita in 1983, with roles in Stepping Out and Dinnerladies, before later appearing in the Harry Potter and Mamma Mia films.

After revealing her bowel cancer diagnosis in 2020, the actress scaled back her workload and has largely kept out of the spotlight.

Yet, despite her rare public appearances, Julie continues to look radiant whenever she steps onto the red carpet.

She has previously said she has no interest in trying to look younger, preferring instead to embrace getting older naturally.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping in 2014, she famously said: 'If everyone had facelifts, there would be no one to play the old people! ... Have some real faces!'

She further noted that she does not mind 'the face looking older' as that's 'just the way it is'.

Interestingly, Julie credits her radiant looks and recent Hollywood roles to her trademark white hair and laughter lines, though she is known to follow the 'eight golden rules of makeup', which focuses on hydration and good skincare.

Jane Seymour, 75

Then: Former Bond girl Jane Seymour (pictured, left) with Jane Fonda in 1990

Now: Today, Jane's age-defying appearance is credited to a Mediterranean-style diet, regular Pilates, light exercise and a positive outlook

Jane Seymour first found fame as a Bond girl before cementing her status as a television icon in the 1990s through the hit series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman.

Now 75, the actress continues to work while also promoting her wellness and lifestyle ventures.

Her age-defying appearance regularly leaves fans stunned, with Jane insisting there is no miracle secret behind her looks.

Instead, she credits a Mediterranean-style diet, regular Pilates, light exercise and a positive outlook, often describing aging as 'a gift'.

Appearing on Lorraine in 2016, she said: 'I have never relied on cosmetic procedures such as lasers or fillers to maintain my youthful appearance. I'm all about aging naturally – I have no desire to look 30 again.'

According to The Looker, the actress's daily skincare routine includes exfoliation in the morning and retinol cream in the evening, as well as the regular use of anti-aging range Crépe Erase by The Body Firm, with products ranging from £25 to £120.

Andie MacDowell, 68

Then: Andie MacDowell in Green Card in 1990

Now: Andie feels more confident than ever in her late sixties, insisting she has no desire to hide the aging process

Andie MacDowell became one of Hollywood's biggest romantic comedy stars during the 1990s thanks to films including Groundhog Day and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Although she continues to act, with a major role alongside her daughter Margaret Qualley in the 2021 Netflix hit Maid, the actress has become just as well-known in recent years for her timeless beauty and embracing her flowing, natural grey curls.

Andie has said she feels more confident than ever in her late sixties, insisting she has no desire to hide the aging process.

She also maintains her youthful appearance by steering clear of hair dye, avoiding restrictive dieting, and maintaining an active lifestyle, all while prioritising skin hydration and sun protection.

Last year, while appearing in a video message on The Drew Barrymore Show, she said, the actress pushed back at expectations that women must always 'look young' no matter how old they are.

She said: 'I look back at my grandmother, who was the matriarch. A strong woman. We just revered her. We respected her. We never would’ve ever expected her to look young. That was not a concept that existed.'

She told Katie Couric in a 2023 YouTube interview: 'It makes me laugh when someone says [grey hair] makes her look older.'

'You know I'm [turning] 65, what do you think, I look 75 just because I let my hair go? But I don't care, I want to be old,' she said.

'I'm tired of trying to be young. I don't want to be young. I've been young. And to be an older person trying to be young, what an effort. That's a lot of effort. I just can't keep up the charade... I can't!'

Pierce Brosnan, 73

Then: Pierce Brosnan at a media conference to launch the whale research ship Song of the Whale at St Katharine Docks on June 6, 2004 in London

Now: Despite being well into his seventies, the star continues to attract attention for his youthful appearance and athletic physique

Pierce Brosnan shot to international superstardom after taking on the role of James Bond in the 1990s, starring in hits including GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough.

Nowadays, the Irish actor works more selectively, dividing his time between acting, painting and family life.

Despite being well into his seventies, the star continues to attract attention for his youthful appearance and athletic physique.

Pierce has previously said staying active, spending time outdoors and maintaining a positive outlook have all helped him age well, insisting that happiness is just as important as physical fitness.

According to the Irish Star, the actor, originally from Drogheda in Ireland, credits his full head of hair and youthful looks largely to his Irish heritage and diet, adding that it's 'all in the hair, the old Celtic hair' as well as 'potatoes, butter or the Guinness'.

He further told Saga magazine: 'I don't see myself as an old man at all. But I suppose I would be considered an old man by some and I am getting older, that's for sure.'

Mary Steenburgen, 73

Mary Steenburgen, 73, has charmed audiences for decades, earning an Academy Award for Melvin and Howard in 1980, and starring in hits like Step Brothers and Elf later on in the noughties.

The Oscar-winning actress divides her time between filmmaking, family life, and her surprising second career as a professional songwriter.

As with Pierce, despite being in her seventies, the beloved Arkansas native continually glows, attributing her youthfulness and bright energy to a joyful outlook, a deep devotion to music, and an active lifestyle.

Rather than focusing on aging, she embraces life's spontaneity, telling People magazine in January: 'I just love living. Laughter and staying curious about the world are the best elixirs.'

While she has never confirmed or admitted to having plastic surgery, Mary has toyed with Botox in the past, though she noted she has 'grown bangs' as an alternative to using injectables.

She told Allure: 'I've done little things, including Botox, but it didn't feel right for me. As an actress, my best tools are my emotions and expressions. So instead, I just grew bangs.

'Essential oils are extremely important to me. If I'm feeling unfocused or a little tired, I pull out a peppermint blend. And there's a sexy blend called Sensation.'
