Say what you will about the Logies red carpet, it’s never dull. Trading international luxury designers for local labels and couturiers, it serves as a reminder that not all Australian fashion is subtle.

Before the ceremony at The Star in Sydney, here are the celebrities who emerged as outliers of style on Sunday.

Phillipa Northeast in Maticevski

A standout moment from Australian Fashion Week was Toni Maticevski staging his first show in 10 years, bringing the audience to their feet. So it’s little surprise his custom dress for Phillipa Northeast was a highlight at the Logies.

The tiered baby pink gown had the architectural edge of Maticevski’s best work, but the feathered detailing added an element of whimsy that really took it to the next level. When Northeast moved, the texture and movement made it come alive.

The My Brilliant Career actor kept her beauty and accessories minimal to great effect, keeping all eyes on that dress.

Allison Langdon in Velani

You pull no punches when nominated for the biggest award of the night, so naturally, Gold Logie nominee and A Current Affair host Allison Langdon looked like a knockout in custom Velani couture by designer Nicky Apostolopoulos.

“It’s just a beautiful simple silhouette in a beautiful fabric,” Apostolopoulos says of the striking bronze column dress that features hand-beaded embellishments. “Ally really rocks a good gown.”

Emma Harvie in Effie Kats

If you weren’t familiar with the work of Emma Harvie, her masterclass in understated elegance rectified that.

The actor, nominated for the best drama program award along with her RFDS cast, emerged as a hero of refined style in a gorgeous, off-the-shoulder chocolate gown by Melbourne designer Effie Kats.

Working with stylist Kerem Hulusi, Harvie paired her asymmetrical dress perfectly with jewel-toned Cleopatra’s Bling jewellery.

Ayesha Madon in Versace and Chloé Hayden in Romance Was Born

Following the final season of Heartbreak High, actors Ayesha Madon and Chloé Hayden proved playing to your strengths always pays off.

Madon paid tribute to past Logies looks in a glamorous Versace dress and Paspaley jewels. “We chose this dress because it’s fabulous,” Madon’s stylist, Tori Knowles, says simply.

For her debut Logies appearance in 2023, Madon wore a modish polka-dot outfit from Dua Lipa’s Versace collection. Her choice this year felt more elevated, appropriately so given the graduation from her Heartbreak High roots.

Meanwhile, Hayden, a longtime Romance Was Born fan, opted for their Still Life Rose dress. The one-of-a-kind bias cut apricot gown is made from a vintage Italian jacquard bedspread with sequined embroidery by Australian artist Laura Jones.

Deborah Mailman in Maara Collective

If you’re going to make a statement, a custom sequined tuxedo is the way to go.

For the occasion of becoming the first Indigenous inductee to the Logies Hall of Fame, Deborah Mailman wore a striking custom Maara Collective tuxedo suit, designed by Yuwaalaraay creative director Julie Shaw.

“Deb really wanted to wear an Indigenous designer this year and we both love sequins,” stylist Donny Galella explains.

“We were so excited to create this custom look for her to receive her special honour,” Shaw adds. “We wanted Deb to feel empowered and glamorous up on that stage.”
