Thanjavur and Tiruvarur are to be brought under enhanced security cover in connection with Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan’s visit to the two districts on Monday. The Vice-President will attend the 11th Convocation of the Central University of Tamil Nadu in Tiruvarur at first and participate in the Ruby and Silver Jubilee valedictory celebrations of SASTRA Deemed University in Thanjavur.
The police said the Vice-President will arrive at the Tiruchi International Airport by a special IAF aircraft at around 9.40 a.m. on Monday. After a brief reception at the airport, he will leave by an IAF chopper to the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, where he will participate in the convocation.
After conclusion of the function, the Vice-President will leave by the same chopper from the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur, to the Indian Air Force station in Thanjavur. He will travel by road from there to the SASTRA Deemed University to attend the Ruby and Silver Jubilee valedictory celebrations at the institution in the evening.
Upon completion of the programme, the Vice-President will leave by road to the Tiruchi international airport and fly to New Delhi by the special aircraft, said police sources. Being the visit of a VVIP, the Thanjavur and Tiruvarur district police have drafted separate schemes to put in place exhaustive security measures at the function spots and other places besides providing route bandobust. Advance Security Liaison meetings were conducted by the police in both districts ahead of the Vice President’s visit.
Over 1,000 police personnel have been mobilised in Thanjavur district and more than 800 personnel have been drafted in Tiruvarur district for bandobust duties at various places. A multi-layer security measure would be put in place at the Tiruchi international airport. The Tiruchi City Police conducted a separate Advance Security Liaison meeting in connection with the Vice-President’s visit.
