A 56-year-old Scotsman has gone missing while on holiday in Rome with his fiancée.

Colin Alexander Ross, from Elgin, vanished on Friday, August 14, just hours after he and Annabella Mcallister arrived for their 'dream' trip to the Italian capital.

The couple had been exploring the Pantheon Roman temple in Piazza della Rotonda when Mr Ross disappeared on a 'side street' as his partner tried to take a picture.

Ms Mcallister said the Scotsman, who was wearing a red Adidas T-shirt and black shorts, had no wallet or phone at the time.

She added that Mr Ross was in 'a bit of an unsteady state due to medication and heat'. He has not yet been sighted by police, according to Ms Mcallister.

The woman wrote in a desperate plea on Facebook today: 'As you all know we are in Rome since Friday but what was meant to be a dream trip has turned into a nightmare as Colin has been missing since the first night.

'At Pantheon in Piazza della Rotonda, my fiancé Colin Alexander Ross went missing around 10pm. He was in a bit of an unsteady state due to medication and heat.

'We had walked across the front of the square from Via Minerva and stopped at the far side, where I went to take a picture.

The Scotsman, from Elgin, vanished while he and his partner were visiting the Pantheon Roman temple on Friday

Annabella Mcallister, his partner, put out an desperate plea on Facebook earlier today

'Colin disappeared up the street to my right, up a slight hill which had various cafes. By the time I followed, he had disappeared.'

Ms Mcallister said it is likely that Mr Ross has forgotten that the couple were staying at the Marcella Royal Hotel, around 3.6km from where he went missing.

She continued: 'He has no phone or wallet with him and probably forgets the name of the hotel we are staying at.

'Police are looking for him but no sightings, please people of Rome help find him.

'He is 56 years old, has fair hair and is around 70kg and 5ft 7in and is wearing a red Adidas style, T-shirt, black shorts, and black earrings. He has an earring in his left ear, a black watch and bracelet on his left wrist.

'All police and agencies are involved though I've heard nothing from police today as yet.'

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: 'We are supporting the family of a British man missing in Italy and are in touch with the local authorities.'
