The four main cast members of Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics have been spotted recreating one of the band’s most famous album covers.

The much-imitated image on the front of the 1969 record Abbey Road shows John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison using a pedestrian crossing outside the studio where the album was recorded.

It seems the moment will be included in one or more of Mendes’ four films, which will each focus on the lives of one of the band members.

Fan-shot footage apparently filmed from an apartment overlooking the crossing and shared on social media shows Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal and Joseph Quinn dressed identically to how the band appeared on the cover.

A member of the production crew can be heard counting to keep the four actors in time as they cross the road.

The four films are set to be released simultaneously on April 7, 2028.

The surviving members of the Beatles, McCartney and Starr, have both given their approval to the new film series.

Paul Mescal revealed he had met McCartney as part of his preparations to play the musician, describing him as an "extraordinary man”, while drummer Starr has stopped by the set and spent time with Barry Keoghan.

The Saltburn actor revealed last year: “When I was talking to him, I couldn’t look at him. I was nervous, like right now. But he’s like, ‘You can look at me’. My job is to observe and kinda take in mannerisms and study him. I want to humanize him and bring feelings to it and not just sort of imitate.”

Babygirl actor Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon, with Stranger Things star Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. The films will also star Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Mia McKenna-Bruce (How to Have Sex) as Starr’s former wife Maureen Starkey Tigrett, Anna Sawai (Shogun) as Yoko Ono, and Sex Education’s Aimee Lou Wood as former model and photographer Pattie Boyd.

The real-life Boyd hit out at not being kept abreast of the production, telling a podcast: “I would have thought it would be polite to mention it to me or let me know that they got someone who’s going to be playing me.

“Don’t you think they’d let me know? Well, I haven’t been contacted by anyone. I could have really told them great stories. But I don’t think they want to know.”
