Marks & Spencer is betting big on a booming demand for suits as Britons dress up to the nines for black tie weddings.

Although the days of wearing a suit and tie to work may be over for many after Covid, the retailer says it is seeing a revival of formalwear, driven by weddings.

Sales of the High Street stalwart’s dress shirts were up 24 per cent last year compared with 2024, while it has already seen 100 suit alterations since launching a bespoke service at its flagship Oxford Street shop last month. Sales of bow ties and tuxedos were also up 9 per cent and 3 per cent respectively.

Mitch Hughes, director of M&S menswear, said: ‘It’s encouraging to see customers choosing M&S for life’s milestone moments.’
