The police arrested three people, including a woman, with a huge quantity of drugs, including MDMA and other narcotic substances, here on Monday.

Those arrested were Mohammed Nishi, 26, from Kanjirappally, Kottayam; Mohammed Azurudeen, 30, from Vengara, Malappuram; and Fatima, 27, from Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka.

The police seized cocaine, brown sugar, LSD stamps and hybrid cannabis from the trio, who are suspected to be key members of a network supplying drugs to Kerala.

The arrests followed three days of surveillance by the police’s district anti-narcotics special action force (DANSAF) team. Acting on information gathered during the investigation, the police tracked the suspects’ vehicle from Kuniyamputhur in Tamil Nadu and intercepted it at Olavakkode Junction near Palakkad.

The occupants initially refused to stop, but the police blocked the vehicle and brought it to a halt. A search that began around 2 a.m. lasted more than three hours. The drugs were eventually found around 5 a.m., specially wrapped and concealed near the vehicle’s diesel tank.

The police are investigating the source of the drugs, the financial network behind the operation and the wider distribution chain.
