After months of speculation ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans finally have confirmation that Sadie Sink is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Jean Grey. Some moviegoers kept quiet about it to avoid spoiling the news, but Marvel fully revealed Sink and the rest of the current X-Men cast during the D23 expo. To capitalize on the MCU buzz, Marvel Comics has announced that Jean Grey will get a new limited series before the end of the year.
The five-issue series, simply titled Jean Grey, will be written by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Rogê Antônio. MacKay has been writing the main X-Men book since the 2024 From the Ashes relaunch that began the post-Krakoa era. Antônio most recently illustrated this year's limited Cyclops series and briefly worked on the Jean Grey-led X-Men Red series by Tom Taylor. The first issue will be released on Nov. 25, 2026, in the aftermath of Marvel's big DNX event.
It hasn't been too long since Jean had a comic of her own. At the start of the From the Ashes relaunch, Stephanie Phillips wrote the ongoing series Phoenix for fifteen issues. That book saw Jean exploring the cosmos and helping those in need. It also brought back Jean's sister Sara Grey, who plays a significant role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Most recently, Jean finally returned to Earth in this year's X-Men Annual #1. Talking to AIPT, MacKay said that post-DNX, "we’re going to see the X-Men in a position to need Jean Grey — and Jean Grey in a position to need the X-Men. Dovetailing that into this moment being one where Jean is in the public consciousness more than she has previously just worked."
MacKay also teased that the relationship between Jean and Scott will be a major focus of the book. While the two have been married for a while, Jean's cosmic escapades have kept the couple apart. "We’re going to see the differences in her philosophy and Scott’s," he said, "Scott builds fortresses, because that’s who he is, but Jean builds bridges, because that’s who she is." In addition to her limited series, Jean will also appear more frequently in MacKay's ongoing X-Men series alongside Cyclops, who is the current team leader.
Jean Grey will be released on Nov. 25.
