Dragon Ball is firmly in its middle age now, as it turns 42 later this year, but that doesn't mean Akira Toriyama's beloved franchise is without secrets and surprises still. Case in point: Despite Vegeta becoming the franchise's second leading man, we've yet to meet all of his family members. King Vegeta has had a sizable role in storylines set in the past, like the opening of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and Vegeta's brother Tarble was introduced in the OVA Dragon Ball: The Return of Son Goku and Friends! But Vegeta's mother has never been seen before — until now. Well... kinda.
New Dragon Ball Super artwork has offered fans their first glimpse at Vegeta's mother, who doesn't even have a name. Dragon Ball's official site held a poll where fans could vote on their favorite Dragon Ball Super manga cover, and volume 19's cover took home the top prize. It shows Goku walking with his family while his parents, Bardock and Gine, are reflected in a puddle. The back cover did the same for Gohan's family, showing Goku and Chi-Chi in the puddle. To celebrate the cover's win, Dragon Ball Super artist Toyotarou drew new artwork showing Vegeta and his family.
Reflected in the puddle are King Vegeta, Vegeta, Tarble, and "the mysterious figure obscured by the King's cape," according to the Dragon Ball site. Based on the family theme, that "mysterious figure" is quite clearly Vegeta's mother, though we only get to see part of her outfit and the top of her hairline, including what looks like some sort of crown.
"There's a character that gave me some issues, though," Toyotarou said of the artwork's composition in a video announcing the poll results (via YouTube closed captioning). "I think I managed to preserve the secrecy," he said. Toyotarou played coy about just who that cape-obscured character is, but, c'mon. We all know it's Vegeta's momma. The matriarchs of the families are paired together in each image: Chi-Chi with Gine and Videl with Chi-Chi. It stands to reason that Bulma would be paired with Vegeta's mother.
Very little is known about Vegeta's mother. She's remained unnamed and unseen, aside from the tiny glimpse Toyotarou's new artwork offers. She was the Queen of the Saiyans until Frieza went and blew up Planet Vegeta, wiping out almost every Saiyan. But, like Jedi post-Order 66, Saiyans keep popping up if a plot demands it, so who's to say Vegeta's mother is really dead?
The Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since Akira Toriyama passed away in 2024. It received a one-shot in 2025, but there's been no official word since on when or if the manga will return. We do know that more Super anime is on the way with The Galactic Patrol series and the Beerus reboot, which is slated to premiere sometime this year.
