Cebu to see isolated rains, moderate winds due to habagat
LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — Cebu will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms due to the prevailing southwest monsoon, or habagat, the state weather bureau said on Tuesday, August 18.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its daily forecast, said moderate winds and seas will also affect the province today.
Temperatures in Cebu may range from 27 to 34 degrees Celsius, the bureau added.
Sea travel advisories up
Due to the unstable weather, several local governments across Cebu have temporarily suspended sea travel and activities for Tuesday.
In a public advisory, the municipal government of Moalboal suspended island hopping and boat diving to Pescador Island.
As of 7 a.m., the coastal town of Santa Fe also suspended all island hopping operations, as well as sea travel of motorbancas with 15 gross tonnage and below on the following routes:
- Mainland Santa Fe to Hilantagaan Island
- Mainland Santa Fe to Kinatarcan Island
- Kinatarcan Island to Daanbantayan
Both advisories were implemented in line with the directives of their respective Philippine Coast Guard substations.
As of Tuesday morning, Pagasa had not raised any gale warning over the country’s seaboards.
LPAs monitored
Meanwhile, Pagasa is monitoring two low-pressure areas (LPAs) that may develop into tropical depressions within the next 24 hours.

As of 3 a.m. Tuesday, one was located 1,115 kilometers east of Northern Luzon and had a “high” chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.
If it forms within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it will be given the local name “Neneng.”
The other system was last spotted 295 kilometers west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and remains outside PAR.
It has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, Pagasa said.
The bureau added that it may not enter PAR and travel away from the country’s landmass.
