SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Yonhap) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit South Korea this week, Seoul's foreign ministry said Tuesday, for talks that are widely expected to focus on advancing bilateral ties and issues related to North Korea.

Wang will make a two-day official visit to Seoul from Wednesday at the invitation of South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, according to the ministry.

On Wednesday, Wang will hold talks with Cho to exchange views on bilateral relations, matters related to the Korean Peninsula and other regional and global issues.

On the following day, he will pay a courtesy call on President Lee Jae Myung at Cheong Wa Dae, where the two will discuss the development of Seoul-Beijing relations and regional security, the presidential office said.

At the meeting, the president is also expected to convey his greetings to Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to Cheong Wa Dae.

The same day, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac will hold a separate meeting and luncheon with Wang to discuss issues of mutual interest, including the security situation on the Korean Peninsula, and other international issues, it added.
