Minister for Public Works department P.K. Basheer on Tuesday flagged off 23 new vehicles allotted to the engineers of the PWD as part of strengthening the fieldwork of the department. Speaking after inaugurating the flag-off of the newly allotted vehicles, Mr. Basheer said the department will be strengthened further to speed up infrastructure development in the State.

Stressing the need to further improve the facilities in the department, he said the PWD is the backbone of the State’s infrastructure development, from construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and public buildings to timely completion of critical projects. The engineers work tirelessly in remote areas and harsh conditions, and their dedication and technical expertise directly contribute to the progress of the State.

With the availability of vehicles, engineers will be able to reach project sites quickly and regularly, conduct timely inspections and monitoring, respond quickly to public complaints, and increase overall efficiency and accountability, he said. It is also a reflection of the government’s commitment to provide necessary facilities to the field officers and enable them to work more effectively, he added.
