Zaldy Co’s 4 ‘bagmen’ face plunder raps

MANILA, Philippines — Fugitive Zaldy Co’s four alleged former bodyguards may be included in the plunder case that will be filed in court, the Office of the Ombudsman said yesterday.

The four men had recanted their statements claiming that they delivered suitcases of cash to several personalities including former speaker Martin Romualdez.

“Investigators do plan to include them as part of the plunder charge because if they will not be witnesses, then they are merely respondents in a crime where they delivered billions of pesos to the respondents in this case,” Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said.

Probers have yet to receive the recantations, he noted.

Romualdez is accused of being the mastermind behind a kickback scheme involving about P56 billion.
